About Weardale Loop

This route was added a few years ago. It takes you over the highest A road in England, through a series of picturesque villages at the head of the River Wear and along the prettiest seven mile back road, returning you to the official route in the market town of Stanhope.

It offers an alternative to the main route, where it is sometimes difficult to find accommodation and food. "We simply cannot cope with the demand," is an oft-heard refrain, though the Allenheads Inn has always managed to take much of the slack.

About Killhope Lead Mining Museum

Gives an interesting insight into the grim days of lead mining and the lives people lived. More to the point, it is a great place to stop after the climb. Refreshments aplenty...
